Chapter Play--"Working"

Thespians of the Western Pacific Islands are planning to present the musical WORKING, based on the novel by Studs Terkel, written by Steven Schwartz and Nina Faso on November 16, 17 and 18, 2012.

Students wishing to apply to be DIRECTOR (or Co-Director) should pick-up materials (script, application form) on Monday, October 1 or Tuesday, October 2 at MHS Building T at 4 PM.  Completed applications, with essay and resume, should be returned and students ready for interview on Wednesday, October 3 at MHS Building T at 5 PM.

NON-SINGING ACTORS may audition on Thursday, October 4 at MHS Building T at 4 PM.

SINGING ACTORS may audition on Friday, October 5 at MHS Building T at 4 PM

CHOREOGRAPHERS may apply/audition on Sunday, October 7 at MHS Building T at 1 PM.

Freestyle Theatre update

2012-05-30  TWPI students presented two one-act plays from ALL IN THE TIMING by David Ives at the Johnny Carson Theatre on Thursday, May 5, 2012.

Words, Words, Words was performed by Anna Rose Deleon Guerrero (Kafka), Jorem Guardian (Swifty) and Matthew Lopez (Milton).

I have heard very little, but I do know that MHS group musical theatre (Rhythm and Harmony) got a callback.

Congratulations!

UPDATE: 2012-05-29 Angie Wheat is reporting that MHS got "second" place in group musical theatre--haven't received confirmation. Also, I think this may mean they will not be on the Saturday showcase at the Lied... but perhaps they will? again, awaiting confirmation.

UPDATE: 2012-05-30 Confirmed by Harold Easton-2nd.  No, they won't be on the Lied for the final showcase.  But yay for being one of only two group musical theatre I.E.'s to get a callback!  Claim that 2nd place with honor.

Thespians--Auditions

TWPI will hold cast auditions for TREASURE ISLAND, an adaptation by Phil Willmott, on Thursday, October 13 and Friday, October 14, 2011 at 4 PM at T Building, MHS.

The play is set in 1772 and starts in England.




All students in grades 6 through 12 are invited to audition. We need pirates for the trip to tropical Treasure Island, aargh!

College Workshop for Seniors and others

TWPI is sponsoring a COLLEGE NIGHT, well, actually COLLEGE DAY, the first of our college workshops, on Saturday, September 17, 2011, 1 PM. The target audience for this particular workshop is any senior in high school, whether already decided to go to college or still undecided. Others (whether in high school or middle school) may also come.

We want to help support students and make sure they meet deadlines and get the best chance for admission and scholarship help in the programs that may fit their interests most appropriately.

Come! Location is T Building at MHS, but this is not just for MHS students, but students from all over the CNMI.

Directors' Auditions--TREASURE ISLAND

TWPI will produce TREASURE ISLAND by Phil Willmott (adapting the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson) as their SY 11-12 Chapter Play. It is scheduled for performance on November 18th, 19th, and 20th.



We are now looking for a Director and Assistant Directors and Stage Manager. These roles are handled by HIGH SCHOOL students. An adult mentor will be available, but the full responsibility of the jobs rests on the shoulders of the actual Directors, etc.

November 5-performance theatre: monologue, duet acting, solo musical theatre, group musical theatre (new), mime
December 3-technical theatre: film, costume design, scenic design, marketing (new)
December 3-performance theatre: monologue, duet acting, solo musical theatre, group musical theatre, mime
January 14-technical theatre and performance theatre (all categories)
February 18-technical theatre and performance theatre (all categories)
March 23 and March 24 (as needed)--regional competition

The dates are subject to change. Locations will be announced as arranged.
First technical theatre competition at MHS-T Building.

For Technical Theatre competitions, the plays to be designed for are as follows:
October--Treasure Island by Phil Willmott (costume and scenic design only)
December--The Miracle Worker by William Gibson(costume and scenic design, marketing)
January--Aida by Elton John, Tim Rice and David Henry Hwang, Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls (costume and scenic design, marketing)
February--Sleuth by Anthony Shaffer (costume and scenic design, marketing)
March--revision of any SY 11-12 competition submission (costume and scenic design, marketing, film)

Math Court

MathCourt is back for another school year, thanks to the dedicated administrators that run the program. The first half of the year will be for the Middle School and High School Division (6th-12th grade). There are some changes that we will be discussing at our coach's meeting, so it is vital that all schools interested attend this important meeting. Dates and deadlines will be discussed during this meeting as well.

2011 Festival News and Notes-#1: Main Stage

I am once again putting together some news and notes about the Thespian Festival. The 2011 Festival is scheduled in Lincoln Nebraska for June 20-25.

Early Show
The Fantasticks by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. Kennedy High School (Iowa) will present the show.

Main Stage attractions include:
The Drowsy Chaperone by by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, to be staged as a joint school production of Floyds Knobs High School and New Albany High School (Indiana).

Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire, to be presented by Dubuque Senior High School (Iowa).


Good Boys and True, written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, will be presented by Harry S. Truman High School (Pennsylvania).

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, conceived by Rebecca Feldman with music and lyrics by William Finn, a book by Rachel Sheinkin and additional material by Jay Reiss. Hebron High School (Texas) will stage the show.

Jekyll and Hyde based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, original stage conception by Steve Cuden and Frank Wildhorn. The music is by Wildhorn and the lyrics and book are by Leslie Bricusse. The All-State Missouri Cast and Crew will present the show.

Avenue Q, School Edition, conceived by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, who wrote the music and lyrics. The book was written by Jeff Whitty. Bradford High School (Wisconsin) will stage the show.


Starmites by Barry Keating and Stuart Ross. The show will be presented by Claremont High School (California).
