A message from our leader to all coaches:

A meeting of all Coaches (PGFC/NJFL/NFL) will be held this Friday, (September 17, 2010) at 4:30pm (at MHS, room D 101).

Due to numerous conflicts with required school activities for teachers, Friday is the only open day.

"I attend Calvary Christian Academy as a sophomore. This NFL trip was my first time to compete in Nationals, as well as my first trip to the USA. Before this, the longest trip I ever had was a three hour flight to Japan. You could say that the twenty hour flight to Kansas City, Missouri was a LONG one! Luckily, this long flight gave us an opportunity to get close to each other.

The NFL CNMI team consisted of ten girls and four boys from five schools. At first, I felt a bit out of place since everybody else sort of knew each other either from past NFL/NJFL competitions or from school. But I soon found myself getting very close to them, to the point that we could tell each other anything.

When we heard that Nationals were being held in Missouri, we weren't so keen on it. We thought--boring, flat, and cornfields. But let me tell you, some of the places we visited were amazing--especially this dainty little town, which we able to tour while riding on a horse carriage. Probably the only thing we didn't really enjoy was the unpredictable weather. One minute, it would be super sunny and the next, it would be raining cats and dogs.

Since we stayed there longer than previous competitions, we were able to go places such as Worlds of Fun (an amusement park), shopping malls, and restaurants. We were able to get in some fun before the competition started, as well as practice in the motel.

As far as the competition goes, it was TOUGH. Everybody there is the real deal. This was my first time, so I was a bit nervous to compete in Expository. But everybody was so supportive of each other that a lot of us broke to the next round.

Competing in Nationals gave us valuable tools to succeed in NFL Regionals. We met interesting people in the Nationals. We even got to do community service by packing food for Haiti.

This NFL trip was one of the best experiences I've had. I was able to meet great people and get close to them. Probably the best thing about this trip was being around each other. I love everyone on the CNMI team. We had so many laughs! If you're thinking of joining NFL I definitely encourage you. It's a great program that provides plenty of opportunities. I miss everything about the trip, except maybe for the jet lag...and sales tax."

First NFL Report & Thespian Update

Team CNMI Students are in Kansas for the NFL competitions. On Sunday, June 13, 2010, they joined the NFL's FOOD FOR HAITI project and helped fill meal bags.

Thespians are preparing for their ITS competitions (individual events and a chapter production in the Chapter Select Showcase). Please help support them by coming to the FREE showcase on Thurday, June 17, 2010 at 7 PM at the American Memorial Park Auditorium.

The ITS students are practicing also for the play; PULLMAN CAR HIAWATHA by Thornton Wilder, which they will stage at the ITS Festival.

New Decade! New Schedule

Debate is set for Friday, 1/29/10 at 5:30 PM at GCA.
NFL and NJFL are set for Saturday, 1/30/10 at 9 AM at SVES.
PGFC and CCLHS are set for Saturday, 2/6/10 at 9 AM at SVES.
Thespians is set for Saturday, 2/6/10 at 1:30 PM at SVES.

Registration is typically an hour before start time.

Schedule changes

Dandan Elementary School has confirmed it will be available for the postponed NFL/NJFL competiton to be held on Saturday 10/24. Our thanks to their Admin. and Staff!!!!!!!!!

The new date for the LD Debates is 10/16/09, and the NFL/NJFL competitions will be on 10/17/09.

The venues are the same.

CANCELLED-officially

No surprise: We're in Typhoon Condition II (as of 11:30 AM Friday).

A Typhoon Warning is now in affect in the CNMI - therfore - all NFL / NJFL and ITS events must be cancelled. A new date for NFL, NJFL and our Thespian Banquet will be scheduled ASAP and the location confirmed. The events on Oct 10 will go on as scheduled, as far as we know at this time.

Possible Storm Delays: NJFL-NFL Competitions; Thespian Banquet

We are still watching the storm, now Typhoon Melor (a/k/a 20 W), to determine whether this Saturday's planned events will be postponed. These events include the NJFL and NFL competitions and the Saturday evening banquet for thespians.

In the event that these events are not held as planned, Hal will post a notice on the main website, with a link on the Matrix page; I'll try to update here, also. Events postponed will be rescheduled.

Tropical Storm Melor (a/k/a 20 W) has been up-graded to a Typhoon.


Different tracking methods put it either between Saipan and Rota, on target for Saipan, or heading just north of us. It looks like it's due to arrive about Saturday morning.

IMPORTANT! Message for all coaches and administrators--PGFC, NJFL, NFL

The WPR board met during this past week and agreed on a schedule of meetings and some changes this year.

Basic terminology:
Coaches are those who help students with technique and rehearsals.

Administrators are those who do the much more important, but less glorious, job of keeping things organized, registering students for competitions, etc.

If you are short-handed at your schools, it is more important to have an Administrator than a coach.

Judges are NEUTRAL arbitrators who follow the rules and adjudge the competitions, assigning both scores and rankings to the competitors.

Certified Judges are those judges who complete certain requirements that the Board sets and pass a test. In the event of ties, the certified judge's scoring/ranking will prevail. And we're looking into the possibility of some kind of remuneration for certified judges.

All competing schools must provide judges in compliance with the formula that is set for each competition.

Changes:
The first meetings of the competition year have been set. (See below.) The agendas, which are not yet finalized, will include important information about some changes that affect everyone. (On-line code assignments, code changes, etc.) You need to be sure to attend the meetings so you don't miss out on these details and changes. If you do things incorrectly, you may jeopardize your students' participation (and wins!) in the competition events.

There will be a meeting for Coaches and Administrators of PGFC on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 5 PM at MHS 101 D.

JUDGES--ALL COMPETITIONS
There will be a meeting for Judges of all competitions on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 6PM at MHS 101 D.

Congrats to Aisha Joyner and Akeiko Dela Cruz for making the top 6 at the International Thespian (ITS) Festival in duet acting.

Congrats to Sung Yul (Tommy) Baik and Moon Hyo Lee for making the top 9 at the ITS Festival in mime.

Congrats to Kyoung Min (Kay) Park for setting a new TWPI record by receiving 21 call backs from college recruiters at the ITS Festival!

And congrats to all of the students on the NFL, NJFL and ITS 2009 teams, for doing a great job representing the CNMI, demonstrating talent, learning and experience, and gaining greater skills at these summer competitions.

NJFL/NFL Showcase

Each year we send some of our most talented youth to the national competitions of the National Forensic League and National Junior Forensic League. Each year the CNMI team comes back with numerous awards and students who are ranked in the nation's top 100 and even the top 10 -- an amazing testament to the success of our program and the talent of our kids when you think of the thousands of students in the US national programs.

This year the NJFL competition will be in San Antonio, Texas, and the NFL will be in Birmingham, Alabama. Those selected to go and represent the CNMI competed throughout this past year to win this honor. During this whole year of competition, only their fellow competitors and the judges have had the chance to see them perform. Now, you will have an opportunity to see their programs before they leave for the competition,

On June 9, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm, at the Multi-Purpose Center, these talented students from both the public and private schools in the CNMI, will present a SHOWCASE of their programs that they will be performing in the national competitions. Come and support their endeavors and enjoy their performances. There is no cost to attend.

Those who have attended the FOA membership meetings know how talented these students are. Come and enjoy and wish them luck.

ITS, NFL-College Night

Every year the NFL/TWPI Board holds a College Night for Juniors and Seniors who are NFL or ITS participants. At this event we introduce those Colleges and Universities that actively recruited students at the NFL Nationals and the ITS Festival and encourage our students to investigate them.




University of Wyoming

This event is open to all NFL/ITS participants, whether public or private school students. If you haven't yet participated in these events but want college information, you can still come, and START participating in NFL and ITS events at the next competition!

It has been our experience that if our NFL and ITS students apply to these schools, they may get special consideration for admissions and scholorship benefits.


University of Cincinnati-CCM

This year, we are holding the event on Friday Oct. 17 between 6:30 and 8:00 pm at Marianas High School, Room 101D.

We hope Juniors and Seniors can attend.
